Invented in 2009 by Dr. Vazquez-Prokopec (at Emory University), the PROKOPACK is a portable, battery-powered device used to collect adult mosquitoes for research and public health surveillance.

The PROKOPACK has become a key entomological tool for the study of mosquitoes, phlebotomines and sanflies, as well as biting midges.

What is the Prokopack? The Prokopack aspirator is a patented invention consisting of a portable, battery-powered device designed for the efficient collection of adult mosquitoes in indoor and outdoor environments. Developed to support vector surveillance and research, the Prokopack enables standardized sampling of resting mosquitoes, including Aedes aegypti, Anopheles, and Culex species. Unlike traditional traps that rely on attraction, the Prokopack allows direct sampling of mosquitoes in their natural resting sites—such as walls, ceilings, and furniture—providing more accurate estimates of adult mosquito density and behavior.
